Mission
To educate, innovate, and engage in order to accelerate the transition to electric mobility.
About the Center
The University of Michigan Electric Vehicle Center brings together the facilities, workforce, education, and technology needed to accelerate the transition to electric mobility — and to keep Michigan at the center of it.
Our story
The EV Center was founded in 2023 with a $130 million investment from the State of Michigan's Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, alongside a $20 million contribution from the U-M College of Engineering. That investment recognized a simple reality: the shift to electric propulsion demands new facilities, new skills, and new research partnerships — all at once.
We work at the intersection of academia, industry, and government, translating research into deployable technology and connecting people to careers in electric mobility.
To educate, innovate, and engage in order to accelerate the transition to electric mobility.
To make Michigan the E-Motor Capital — a global center of gravity for electric propulsion talent, research, and manufacturing.
Our Values
Five values shape how we work with each other, with our partners, and with the communities affected by the electric transition.
We develop electric mobility solutions that are safe, resilient, and secure — acting as catalysts for positive industry change and workforce development, and committing to a sustainable future that benefits all of society.
We honor individuality and diverse perspectives, cultivating a caring environment where innovation and collective impact grow together.
We champion autonomy and develop leadership at every level, giving each person the freedom to contribute — with accountability.
We find joy in our work, and it drives us to challenge norms and pursue excellence. We value an inclusive environment where reflection and speaking up shape what comes next.
We anchor our work in competence, communication, and integrity — excelling in our roles and fostering a supportive, respectful environment built on continuous learning, transparency, and humility.
